Doula
Support
Because doulas are amazing, and we want you to have the support you deserve
Birth Doulas
Finding a doula is about connection, trust, and comfort. We recommend reaching out to several doulas and seeing who you feel the best with. Most offer free consultations, which are a great chance to ask questions, get a sense of their style, and explore whether they will be a good fit for your birth team. Use this time to learn about their experience, approach, and how they support both you and your partner so you can feel confident and prepared on your birth day.
The 101…
-
A birth doula is a companion who provides continuous support during labor and birth.
Doula support can include physical comfort such as massage, pressure, movement, positioning, and water therapy; emotional support that helps you feel encouraged, cared for, and empowered; informational support with guidance, coping techniques, and evidence-based resources; and advocacy support by helping you ask questions, communicate clearly, and make informed decisions. Doulas do not speak on your behalf, but they support your right to make decisions about your body and your baby.
-
In the context of birth, doula support goes a long way. Birth is intense and often unfamiliar, and communication can shift in labor. Doulas support your whole team by guiding your partner, offering reassurance, and helping create a calm, steady environment so everyone feels more grounded and supported.
-
There is overlap in the doula-midwife venn diagram, but the differences are where the magic happens. Midwives are responsible for clinical care and safety, while doulas provide continuous, hands-on support centered on you. While midwives also offer comfort, their focus must shift to clinical needs when required. Your doula provides consistent, layered support throughout, which can make a meaningful difference.
-
Research shows that continuous support is associated with higher rates of vaginal birth, lower use of pain medication, fewer Cesareans, shorter labors, and more positive experiences. In one study, Cesarean rates dropped from 25 percent to 13 percent with a doula, and from 59 percent to 13 percent during inductions. Continuous labor support is one of the most effective, low-risk ways to improve birth outcomes. (EBB)
-
Doulas are most effective because they are independent and work for you. Their priority is your comfort, not clinic practices. They remain client-centered while helping integrate your care team and support strong communication. We encourage collaboration and love when doulas are part of prenatal visits.
-
There are many ways to make doula care more accessible. Adding doula services to your baby registry is a favorite, family and friends love making sure you are cared for. Other options include crowdsourced fundraisers, sliding scale pricing, community grants, HSA or FSA funding, and bartering.

Postpartum Doulas
Postpartum is a tender, transformative time that deserves care, attention, and support. You don’t have to navigate it alone.
This season invites slowing down, yet it can often feel overwhelming without the right support in place. Care that is flexible and responsive allows needs to shift day by day, helping families feel more grounded, supported, and at ease as they find their rhythm.
Postpartum doula care provides hands-on newborn support, emotional guidance, and practical help so that parents can recover, rest, and adjust with confidence.
